A realistic two-hour plan
Two hours is enough to do a small number of rooms properly, not to touch every room lightly. A typical split looks like this:
- Kitchen, around 40 minutes: worktops, hob, sink, appliance exteriors, floor
- Bathroom, around 30 minutes: bath or shower, basin, toilet, mirror, tiles, floor
- Main living area, around 30 minutes: dusting, surfaces, vacuum and mop
- Remaining time: one bedroom, hallway or a task you have asked for
Tell the cleaner your priorities
The single biggest improvement you can make to a short booking is saying, in order, which rooms matter most. Without that, time gets spread evenly and nothing feels finished.
When two hours is not enough
Book longer if the home is larger than a one or two-bedroom flat, if it has not been cleaned professionally for a while, if you want interior windows or an oven included, or if there is a lot of tidying to do before cleaning can start. As a guide, a 2-bed, 1-bathroom home takes around 2.5 to 3 hours.
Ten minutes of prep buys you cleaning time
Clearing worktops, picking up clothes and moving toys off the floor turns tidying time into cleaning time. It is the cheapest way to get more out of a short visit.
