Deep cleaning checklist

A deep clean works through the parts a routine visit skips: inside, behind, underneath and above.

Kitchen

The kitchen usually takes the largest share of a deep clean.

  • Inside the oven, including racks and door glass
  • Extractor hood and filter
  • Inside and on top of the fridge, behind where access allows
  • Cupboard fronts, handles and interiors if emptied
  • Tiles, grout and splashbacks descaled
  • Skirting boards, bin area and floor edges

Bathroom

Limescale and grout are the difference between a clean bathroom and a deep-cleaned one.

  • Shower screen, tiles and grout descaled
  • Taps, shower head and waste fittings
  • Behind and around the toilet base
  • Extractor vent, light fittings and mirror
  • Floor edges and skirting

Bedrooms and living areas

  • Skirting boards, door frames and door tops
  • Light switches, sockets and handles
  • Behind and under moveable furniture
  • Interior window glass, sills and frames
  • Radiators, vents and picture rails

How long to allow

A deep clean typically takes about twice as long as a regular visit of the same property — roughly five to six hours for a 2-bed, 1-bathroom home. Booking too little time is the most common reason a deep clean disappoints.
